SPOILER FREE review of Avengers: Infinity War.

Starting 10 years ago with Iron Man, Marvel has released 18 movies, each building to Avengers: Infinity War.  Millions of people have seen these movies with billions of dollars made in the process.  Could the climax live up to the hype?  Is it even possible to do so?  The answer is yes and no.

I consider myself a casual fan, I have seen the movies, enjoyed them, but have never picked up a comic book or dived deeper into the expansive Marvel Universe.  Avengers: Infinity War lived up to my expectation, it was a fitting end to what been a 10-year story arc.

But it’s not the end, we know Disney/Marvel have a slate of upcoming movies planned and while the movie does have a definite conclusion, at the same time it feels like a new beginning.  My gut feeling is that it will be hotly debated once released to the general public, some people will really enjoy how it ends with others upset.  Regardless of where anybody falls in line, one thing that I think will be universal is that the follow up can’t get here soon enough to see what is next!

Couple quick notes and thoughts:

  • Avengers: Infinity War is a fast paced, action movie. It starts out fast and does not ever let up.  It’s 2.5 hour length goes by in an eye blink.
  • It’s a movie about the villain. The cast is huge, all of our super hero friends are involved, with 1 exception oddly enough.  With that many characters Avengers: Infinity War does not provide much backstory on our heroes, it is expected that the audience already knows about the events that has lead up to this moment.  Thanos though, gets a lot of the screen time, we dive into him as a character, his backstory, and even see an emotional side of him.
  • Yes, there is a scene at the end of the credits.
  • There is a lot to digest, its been 12 hours since I saw the movie and I am still trying to reconcile everything that I saw.  It is a movie that will require a second viewing.  It jumps around a lot.
  • The big fight scene is massive and visually stunning. That alone is worth the admission
  • Thanos and his cast of villains are each fantastic characters, worthy of their own stories.
  • The only complaint I would have about the movie is that there is just too much going on. With the exception of Iron Man and Gamora, we do not see and get enough interaction with our other hero’s.

Have you seen it?  When you do let us know your thoughts, reactions and where you think Marvel goes next?
