(West, TX) — The city of West is remembering the 15 people killed and nearly 200 hurt when a fertilizer plant exploded in the McLennan County town six years ago.

The city’s Fallen Heroes Memorial was dedicated on Saturday to honor the brave first responders who sacrificed their lives.  The event had to be held inside the new West High School because of severe weather in the area.

Governor Greg Abbott commended the unity of West following the disaster.  He said that even though the explosion left West scarred, the resolve of the people has never been stronger.
