Johnson County Escapees Captured

(Johnson County, Tx) – Two inmates who escaped from the Johnson County Jail late Friday afternoon are back in custody.

According to a press release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the jail went on lock down about 4:45pm after it was discovered that two inmates, 58-year-old William Bates and 48-year-old Douglas Strong were missing.  During a search for the inmates, jail personnel found the perimeter fence had been cut.  After a brief manhunt, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says Bates was located and arrested about an hour and a half later at a house on CR 911 in Johnson County.  Then just after midnight, Strong was taken into custody at home on CR 320 in Glen Rose.

Bates was previously in jail on burglary charges, Strong for drug charges.  Both men can now add escape charges.
