Martin Truex Jr. was not to be denied this year at Martinsville. After being nudged out of the way and losing in the last turn in 2018, Truex ran away from William Byron in the closing laps to claim a critical playoff victory in the First Data 500. Truex led 464 of the 500 laps in an absolutely dominating performance, guaranteeing that he will run for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship in two weeks. Two non-playoff drivers followed behind, Byron in second and Brad Keselowski in third. Then playoff contenders Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney came home fourth and fifth.
