Former North Texas Congressman And Vietnam Vet Dies At 89

(Plano, TX)  —  The family of a former U.S. congressman originally from San Antonio is announcing his death on Wednesday in Plano.

Sam Johnson was 89.  He was an Air Force vet who flew combat missions in Korea and Vietnam, and later served as a Texas congressman for more than 25 years.  Johnson was shot down over Vietnam in 1966 and spent time in the Hanoi Hilton as a cellmate of John McCain.

Johnson was elected to Congress in 1991 and was one of the most conservative Republicans on Capitol Hill.
