(Fort Worth, TX) — American Airlines plans to cut as many as 25,000 jobs starting on October 1st.
The Fort Worth-based carrier announced on Wednesday that the pandemic has greatly reduced air travel, so it has more employees than it needs to operate fewer flights in the fall. With about 30,000 employees in North Texas, American is the area’s second-largest employer.
The layoffs and furloughs include 2,500 pilots and nearly ten-thousand flight attendants, along with maintenance, reservations, fleet and passenger service.
