(Austin, TX) — Governor Greg Abbott says Texas schools have to open.

Abbott issued a statement saying schools can close only if there’s a coronavirus outbreak after students return.  The announcement supports the Texas attorney general’s opinion last week stating local health officials can’t order school closures.

Districts can apply to keep their schools closed, and the Texas Education Agency will review those requests.
