(Stephenville, Tx) – An Erath County man running for Sheriff, is now the one behind bars.
According to Stephenville Empire Tribune, Paul Calvin Tyus, who had entered the Erath County Sheriff’s race as an independent candidate trying to unseat incumbent Matt Coates, has been charged with fraudulent use or possession of identifying information and tampering with a governmental record.
Investigators say Tyus forged the names and signatures of dozens of people on his petition, including two people who were dead.
The 50-year-old Tyus turned himself in to Erath County authorities over the weekend and is currently free on $25,000 bond.
