(Dallas, TX)  —  The founder of America’s biggest privately owned advertising agency is resigning after saying an ad campaign was “too Black.”

Stan Richards founded Dallas-based The Richards Group in 1976 and he stepped down yesterday after word of his comment became public.  Industry trade publication Ad Age reported that Richards said a proposed campaign celebrating Black artists was “too Black” and would turn off Motel 6’s “white supremacist constituents.”

Motel 6 and Home Depot have dropped The Richards Group as their ad agency.
