(Decatur, Tx) – A damaging fire has forced the closure of a Decatur middle school.

The district says because of a fire Wednesday night in a classroom at McCarroll Middle School they will have to close the campus Thursday and Friday.

Firefighters say the fire was quickly contained to the STEM classroom in the front hallway, but there was a lot of smoke damage throughout the building.  Decatur Fire crews got mutual aid from Paradise, Bridgeport and Alvord Fire Departments.

Decatur ISD reports no one was in the building at the time of the fire.  The cause is under investigation.
