(Austin, TX)  —  State Republican lawmakers in Texas are trying to keep transgender women from playing on women’s school sports teams.

Houston area State representative Valoree Swanson filed a bill requiring the separation of athletics teams based on biological sex.  The bill would apply to Texas students in K-through-12 public schools, colleges and universities.

Swanson described the bill as a “common sense measure” to keep male athletes from “robbing” women of championship trophies and educational opportunities.
