(Austin, TX) — Texas lawmakers are considering a request from Gov. Greg Abbott to pass a state law banning vaccine mandates by private entities.

Abbott had issued an executive order this week, prohibiting businesses and nonprofits in the state from requiring coronavirus vaccines for their employees and customers.

State Rep. Tom Oliverson, a Republican from Cypress, authored House Bill 155, which allows people to opt out of vaccine mandates for a number of reasons.  The bill also allows employees to sue employers who require vaccines.
