(Austin, TX) — A top political consultant to Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is under indictment for theft and commercial bribery.
The Travis County D-A says Todd Smith was indicted on Tuesday for taking money in exchange for state hemp licenses that are distributed through Miller’s office. Smith was arrested in May and accused of taking $55,000 as part of the scheme.
Smith’s attorneys say he hasn’t broken any laws. Miller, who hails from Stephenville, is running for third term as Texas agriculture commissioner, and faces two GOP challengers in the March primary.
