(Midland, TX) — Midland police are investigating a traffic accident that killed a candidate for Texas Railroad Commissioner earlier this week.

Officers say 69-year-old Marvin “Sarge” Summers of Lubbock died in the crash in Midland on Tuesday afternoon.  Investigators say Summers rear-ended a semi-truck on Highway 349.  Summers had been in the Army for 21-years and the oil and gas industry for 30-years.

He was attending an event at the George Bush Convention Center and an industry organizational meeting at Midland College.
