(Boyd, TX) — Fire officials are investigating the cause of a grassfire that burned about 200-acres in Wise County on Monday.
The fire started in a rural area on County Road 4698 and spread fast because of dry weather and gusty winds. The blaze threatened homes, farm buildings and livestock, and reportedly burned a few structures. Fire crews from several counties responded, and planes with the U.S. Forestry Service joined the effort.
Officials say a lit cigarette may be to blame. No people or livestock were injured.
There is currently a burn ban for Wise County.
