Prison Escapee Killed In Shootout With Troopers

(Jourdanton, TX) — A Texas fugitive suspected of killing a family of five while on the run is dead following a police chase and shootout.

Officials say 46-year-old Gonzalo Lopez was captured a few hours after the family was found dead in a Leon County home. Late Thursday night, state police spotted a pickup truck stolen from the murdered family in Jourdanton, south of San Antonio.

After a chase that ended in a crash, Lopez got into a gunfight with police, who wounded him. He died after being taken into custody.
