(Glen Rose, Tx) – Officials at Dinosaur Valley State Park are discouraging people from swimming in the low flowing part of the river due to the possible presence of Amoeba in the water.

Dinosaur Valley posted a statement on Facebook saying, “At this time, we strongly advise AGAINST swimming in the river until river conditions improve. We will give updates as needed.”  Extreme temperatures and a lack of rain have cause low water levels in both the Brazos River and the Paluxy River, including the Big Rocks swimming area in Glen Rose.

The Brazos River Authority says the combination of low water and hot temperatures can lead to dangerous Amoeba in the water.

Officials say the water quality of the Paluxy River is very poor right now.  Swimmers and fisherman are being urged to use caution, avoid all stagnant or standing water and avoid getting river water in your nose or mouth.
