(Austin, TX) – The Lone Star State is considered unlikely to adopt the so-called red flag laws, as incentivized by the bipartisan gun bill that the Senate passed on Thursday.

The measures allow judges to temporarily confiscate guns from people who are considered dangerous.  Individual states will decide whether to enact red flag laws.  Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who oversees the Senate, indicated Wednesday that it’s not going to happen in Texas.

Opponents point out that red flag laws violate due process by allowing the seizure of guns from people who haven’t been charged or convicted of a crime, often on the basis of an anonymous complaint.
