(Fort Worth, TX) — This year’s July 4th fireworks in Fort Worth will be remembered as the ones that ended early after starting a grass fire.

A crowd of thousands flocked to Panther Island Pavilion on Monday for the biggest Fourth of July fireworks display in North Texas.  But the show abruptly ended a few minutes after it started when several small grass fires broke out on the bank of the Trinity River.  Firefighters hurried to put out the fires as an announcer told everybody it was time to go home.

Fort Worth Fire Department posted on social media that crews responded to a total of 68 grass fires throughout the day.
