(Austin, TX) — There’s a move in Texas to remove lessons about the phrase “In God We Trust” from public schools.
The State Board Of Education, says that would be a mistake citing the “core culture” in Texas. The Board today is taking up debate over what’s taught during History and Social Studies classes.
The removal of teaching the national motto, and its reference to God, is being blasted by conservative groups.
Last year, Texas passed a bill that requires schools to display a picture of the national motto. It was part of a wave of bills related to patriotism, including one that mandated the national anthem be played before sporting events.
