More Wildfires Pop Up Across North Texas

(Fort Worth, Tx) –  Continued hot and dry conditions across North Texas brought on more grass fires.

Three Hood County firefighters were treated for injuries from a grass fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon near Tolar.  According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the Colony Fire was approximately 450 acres and 20% contained as of 8:30 last night.  They believe it was started by welders working in the area.  The Forest Service said one of the firefighters suffered burn injuries and was airlifted to Parkland hospital, the other two were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

Meanwhile in Parker County, crews were battling a brush fire in Millsap on Wilson Bend Road, near FM 113 between Millsap Elementary School and Midpoint Chapel.  Firefighters say the fire was about 15 acres in size and damaged at least one structure but was contained by the afternoon.

In Wise County a 100 acre grassfire named the “Deep Creek Fire” was under control but 0% contained as of 5:30a Thursday morning, according to the Forest Service.  some residents were evacuated for a short time.

On a positive note, the 6,755 acres Chalk Mountain Fire in Somervell County that’s been burning since July 18th is now 96% contained.
