(Fort Worth, TX) — A recent audit of Tarrant County’s juvenile detention center is reporting serious problems with overcrowding.

In April, the detention center’s population reached a record 138, exceeding its capacity of 120 young offenders.  County commissioners hired former Tarrant County director of juvenile services, Carey Cockerell, to conduct the study.

Problems at the detention center include housing some juveniles in the adult jail with no separation from the general population.
