(Austin, TX) —   The Permitless carry bill passed by the state legislature earlier this year allows Texans 21 and older to carry a handgun in public without a permit or training.

Governor Greg Abbott is a big supporter of the bill, saying it instills freedom in the Lone Star State.  Opponents of the bill, including some law enforcement officers, have expressed concern that it will increase crime rates and put more people in danger.

This law is one of more than 600 that go in effect Sept. 1st in Texas.
