
(Dallas, TX) — More than 130 chickens are receiving care after being rescued from a cockfighting operation in southeast Dallas.
Acting on a tip about a cockfight in progress, Police and the SPCA of Texas seized 133 birds from the property on Saturday afternoon. There were 123 roosters and eight hens, plus two dead roosters. The surviving birds are being evaluated at the SPCA’s animal rescue center, where many of the roosters were found to be seriously injured.
No word of arrests. DPD’s Animal Cruelty Unit will handle any criminal charges that may result.
