(Austin, TX) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Meta over the use of facial recognition technology.
In a lawsuit filed Monday, Paxton claims the company that owns Facebook and Instagram violated privacy protection laws in the state by using facial recognition to collect biometric data from users without their consent. Paxton adds Facebook stored the biometric data of people who didn’t have a Facebook account.
The A-G says Meta then sold that data for profit. Meta says the allegations in the lawsuit are “without merit.”
