(Fort Worth, Tx) – Police in Fort Worth say with the help of a concerned father, a potential mass shooting was stopped before it could happen.

Fort Worth PD says they received a call from a man who claimed his 27-year-old son wanted to buy guns and go on a killing rampage, similar to what took place earlier this month in Midland-Odessa.  Investigators say the suspect withdrew several hundred dollars from his bank to try and buy guns.  He went to several gun shops and was denied because of background checks.  He then tried to buy guns off the street, until a police crisis intervention team caught up with him west of downtown Fort Worth.

Police say the man was taken to a mental health facility for treatment.  The department praised the man’s father for stepping forward to help stop the potential shooting.
