(Arlington, TX) — Mansfield ISD is stepping up campus security a week after the shooting at Timberview High School.

Last Thursday, 18-year-old Timothy Simpkins reportedly shot a 15-year-old student who is still in the hospital.  The district will now use metal detector wands to conduct random weapons checks at its middle and high schools.

The district’s police will work with other police agencies to get more officers onto the campuses.  Video surveillance of high-traffic and common areas will also be increased.
