(Weslaco, TX) — The Texas Department of Public Safety says armed men are being seen more and more on the Mexican side of the southern border.

During an update on Operation Lonestar yesterday, DPS showed a video of groups of armed men wearing body armor.  The video was reportedly taken in Starr County earlier this week.  A spokesman said the visibility of the armed groups could be an attempt to intimidate law enforcement as criminal activity continues to rise along the border.

The governor’s office announced yesterday that it is awarding more than 36-million-dollars in grants to help with border security and criminal prosecution tied to the enforcement effort.
